Dan Hamann

Dan Hamann is a multi-instrumentalist whose musical journey began at age eight, when his parents brought home an upright piano and unknowingly set off a lifelong chain reaction. Born with aphantasia (an inability to visualize images in the mind), Dan found that music gave him a way to explore imagination through sound and structure. While other kids were off in imaginary worlds, Dan was elbow-deep in chords, figuring out how to turn play into music—and vice versa.

Since then, he’s bought, played, and re-homed more instruments than he can reasonably remember. Guitars, keys, harps, recorders, accordions—if it makes a sound and doesn’t bite, Dan’s probably given it a go. He’s written somewhere around a hundred songs, leading one reviewer to call him “The bastard child of Tom Lehrer, Shel Silverstein and Cole Porter”. He’s pretty sure it was a compliment.

Before joining the band, Dan toured with a musical comedy duo in college, then spent a decade performing in theater. He continues to write and perform solo shows featuring original comedic songs, including an upcoming one about birds—because frankly, they’ve earned it.
